Art Work
Our Work
To coincide with Venture Arts’ programme of events for PERSPECTIVES we’re delivering a one off ‘Drop in and Draw’ workshop with renowned artist Leslie Thompson, AKA ‘The Superstar Artist Drawer’.
Register your interest via our Eventbrite or our Facebook Event page
Leslie Thompson has a highly developed drawing style, drawing both from memory and through live observational drawings. This will be a chance for artists and illustrators to come a long and learn from the artist and create collaborative drawings based on a set up in the studio.
Materials: We will supply materials for visitors to use but feel free to bring your own. We are also asking visitors to bring an object of their choice that inspires them to add the the studio set up to draw.
More about Leslie Thompson
He depicts scenes from television and film from 1970 -1990. His drawings are punctuated with fascinating anecdotes from film, music and TV and he also has a vast collection of superheroes which he binds and protects. Thompson has been a regular practising artist at Venture Arts studios for over twenty years and through this has been able to extend his innate illustrative gift into stitch, animation and printmaking.
Leslie found success when he sold all of his vitrine series on the opening day at the OutsiderXchanges project booth at The Manchester Contemporary , 2016. He has also exhibited as a part of OutsiderXchanges (a Venture Arts project) at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Whitworth Lates Art Party event and documented events through live drawing such as DaDaFest and Creative Minds North.
PERSPECTIVES will share not only the different perspectives of the artists in terms of their artwork and disciplines but also how they view and exist in the world today as practicing contemporary artists with learning disabilities.
On consecutive weekends of 9-11 and 16-18 November, Venture Arts opens its new studio space in Hulme, Studio 53, with differing and unusual works each time exploring experimental art, photography, sculpture and moving image. These studio shows will offer visitors an insight into the artist’s creative practice, viewing the collection of artworks in situ where the work has been developed. Highlights include a re-appropriated record player that has collaboratively been transformed into a zoetrope of artistic pre-film animations and a 3D projection mapping installation.
