We’re delighted to host Creative Minds North at HOME, Manchester on 15th June 2017.
Creative Minds have been running disability-led conferences across the UK, breaking new ground in disability and the arts. The events bring together artists and performers with learning disabilities and disability-led arts organisations to present, challenge and explore the concept of ‘disability arts’ and the role it plays in contemporary arts to a wider audience.
For Creative Minds North we’re working in collaboration with world-renowned theatre company Mind The Gap (Bradford).
Other organisations involved are: DIY Theatre (Manchester); Lawnmower Theatre (Newcastle); Tin Arts (Durham); More Music (Morecambe); Blue Room at the Bluecoat Gallery (Liverpool); Prism Arts (Lancaster) and Headway Arts (Northumberland)
As well as show-casing the work of artists with learning disabilities across the region, the day will be full of talks, discussion groups, interactive performance and activities designed and led by learning disabled artists to consider the following questions:
- How do we create great art?
- What does the term professional mean?
- How can the work be best described and discussed?
- How can we help the wider arts world to commission work?
- Artists, performers and film makers with learning disabilities
- Arts organisations
- Art critics
- Arts funders
- Venue programmers
- Students and tutors
- Anyone who is interested in learning about disability led arts
