Artist Steering Group

Stencil print of a black and white cat

Our Artist Steering Group meet monthly to plan events and discuss all things Venture Arts.

The group is made up of Venture Arts artists and is chaired by former participant and now Public Engagement Assistant, Amber Stother. She explains more about the group below. If you’re interested in getting involved you can contact Amber at engage@venturearts.org or call 0161 233 1223.

“My name is Amber Stother (I’m the last person on the right hand side of the photo), I have been the chair of the Venture Arts steering group since about 2016 and work alongside Lydia and Marisa to run the group. As chair I set the meeting agenda, invite new artists to join the group, lead the meetings and attend board meetings to share what the Steering Group is doing. The group is made up of Venture Arts artists and has grown bigger in the last few years, it is a very welcoming group.

Being on the Steering Group gives artists the chance to get their voice across and share ideas.

We have our say on important  issues like how to make Venture Arts more environmentally friendly, plans for the new website and accessibility. We make decisions about how Venture Arts should be run. We talk about events and exhibitions that are coming up and plan our own events such as the Venture Arts Quiz, the summer disco and the Venture Arts Christmas party.

Sometimes we invite guest speakers or members of the Venture Arts board to meetings which has been good as they have got to see how the Venture Arts steering group runs. The steering group say that they enjoy the meetings, they feel it’s worthwhile because it makes them more involved in Venture Arts and when they put on events it makes them feel happy.

One highlight I will take away from the steering group is when we planned the summer disco, I thought it was lovely and it was nice seeing everyone together and enjoying themselves after Covid. I really enjoy being part of the steering group and feel like it’s a family.”
