Claire Dorsett is a visual artist with a studio in Manchester, UK. She describes her work as “Talking out loud, both physically and visually, to myself but also hopefully to you.” and her paintings are often direct, bold and confident, with a need to express and an attempt to
connect edging through the seeming assuredness. Originally from Merseyside, she graduated from her BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting at The University of Brighton in 2007 and from MA Painting at The Slade School of Fine Art in 2010. Since then she has exhibited both nationally and internationally and her work is heldin both public and private collections worldwide.
Claire collaborated with Amy Ellison on Venture Arts CoLab series and created Love Rules/ Dream Life/ I Fancy You (2024) video and paper sculpture. They worked on a confessional collaboration, spending long hours chatting together, exploring crushes, friendships, paper choosers, fallings out, love numerology, dates, failings, romance, food, bowling, pub lunches, business alter-egos, sexy boys, unavailability and day dreaming. They worked with paint and pastel, experimenting with paper folding, making lists of love rules, video, sculpture and painting.
Recent exhibitions include ‘Gargling with Jelly’, Thames-Side Studios Gallery, London; ‘Companion’ curated by Gayle Meikle at Workplace Foundation, Newcastle and ‘Fayre
Share Fayre’, curated by Nat Pitt for A Modest Show at the Whitworth Gallery, Manchester.
