Artists
David Blandy
David worked with young artists from Venture Arts through a series of workshops, reimagining Manchester 8000 years from now.
David Blandy lives in Brighton, making work that slips between performance and video, digital and analogue, investigating the stories and cultural forces that inform and influence our lives. Collaboration is central to his practice, examining communal and personal heritage and interdependence. With research spanning multiple forms of archive, from historic texts to academic archives, archaeology and ecological theory, twitch streams and film archives, he weaves poetic works that explore the complexities of the contemporary subject.
David worked with artists from Venture Arts’ Young People’s Art Club. Niamh, Raven and George from Venture Arts spent time with David, talking, drawing and writing. Their collective imaginings are captured in the zine Lost Eons: Three Worlds. Through the booklet, explore Three Worlds and be transported to Manchester in the distant future, where you’ll find Niamh’s ‘Crystal Kingdom’. Then perhaps wander around George’s ‘Park’ to meet Heaton Park Rose Queen, Waddlefly Splitface Plant and many more wondrous characters. Finally, journey through The Enchanted Forest, The City and The Secret Space, in Raven’s ‘Enchanted Series’, but do be careful of The Demon Plaag!
