Harry Meadley
Harry Meadley was part of ’Thumbs Up’ an exhibition at Castlefield Gallery in 2020 that grew out a shared studio residency at Venture Arts and focused on making gallery spaces more warm and welcoming.
Harry Meadley is an artist born and based in Leeds, who takes a conversational and cooperative approach to art making, often working with galleries and arts organisations in the development of projects that address how art operates in a social context, whilst seeking to challenge, transform and reclaim the intended uses of public space.
For his part in the Thumbs Up exhibition at Castlefield Gallery, Meadley literally warmed the gallery by installing infrared heating panels, as well as making a photographic work (depicting the shared studio at Venture Arts) that warmed viewers as they stood in front of it. He also producing more polite LED signage and collaborating with Leslie Thompson to make a galley map inspired by animal filled zoo maps.
