The Whitworth, The University of Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester M15 6ER Other Transmissions: Conversations with Outsider Art is a creative collaboration on equal terms between a group of six artists, with and without learning disabilities. Original artwork in multi-media, sound, performance and drawing has been developed in initial response to the Musgrave Kinley Outsider Art Collection (MKOAC), housed at the Whitworth. This is the latest exhibition to evolve from artist residency and touring project Conversations Series II led by Venture Arts, in collaboration with the Whitworth and Castlefield Gallery, where artists have expanded on themes of labelling, categorisation, the power dynamics of the art world and the meaning of collaboration. Elements of the work will also go on display at Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool (7 - 21 March 2020). The Opening Event at the Whitworth on Thursday 13 February, 6-8pm will feature a performance from John Powell-Jones and a sound and film installation by Joe Beedles. This celebratory event will also coincide with the five year birthday celebrations of the re-opening of the Whitworth. It's free and you are welcome to drop-in (booking isn't required).
