At the end of last year we recruited 12 artists to join our Artistic Mentor programme, training learning disabled artists to be Artistic Mentors to young children in schools.   The artists all submitted a written application and then took part in interviews where they shared their ideas for how they would approach leading a creative project. We were so impressed by the quality of the applicants that we increased the cohort of Artistic Mentors from 6 to 12! NEWS | Artistic Mentors training to work in schools from March    The artists all have different specialities, including textiles, multi sensory art, illustration, ceramics, collage, performance art, photography and print making. The group have begun their programme of training workshops to help them prepare for delivering projects in schools. So far they've taken part in sessions on safeguarding, confidence building, project planning and professionalism.   This month and next the training will focus on working with children and young people and co-facilitation, and then in March they'll head in to schools! We're delivering this training along with Z-arts, Odd Arts and The Edge.   If your school could benefit from the artistic talents of our Artistic Mentors please get in touch at info@venturearts.org or call 0161 232 1223.
