Colours
Violet Emsley is Venture Arts’ oldest artist. She creates immersive abstract artworks across print, textiles and painting, drawing on a lifelong creative practice. Her textile work has been exhibited at The Whitworth, featuring in A Modest Show in 2022 as part of the collateral programme for British Art Show 9.
As her eyesight has changed, Violet has embraced a more intuitive approach to making, using paint and colour to create expressive abstract works. Through layered textures and rich, vibrant palettes, her paintings and prints evoke a strong sense of movement, depth and emotion.
Two of Violet’s paintings were selected for YESS LAD at TJ Boulting during Frieze London in 2022 and were later exhibited as part of the National Festival of Making in 2023. More recently, her artwork has been incorporated into the design of the Chill Out Space at Aviva Studios, extending her vibrant abstract language into a welcoming public environment.
