Maureen Callaghan’s creative practice spans embroidery, drawing and mixed media. She focuses almost entirely on the self-portrait, depicting herself with repeated patterns and shapes that recur throughout her practice.
Her detailed portraits suggest an imaginary world that at times engulfs her, creating a protective layer where she surrounds herself in vibrant colour, flowers and nature.
How long have you been making art?
“A while, for as long as I can remember.”
What are your favourite art materials to work with?
“Everything and anything. I like embroidery.”
What is your art about?
“People. I enjoy it.”
