Exhibition
Outside In National Open | Shelter
We’re delighted that four Venture Arts artists – Chelsea Dalton, Darren Gallager, Leslie Thompson and Dominic Bennett – have been selected to exhibit in Shelter, Outside In’s seventh National Open exhibition at The New Art Gallery Walsall.
Outside In champions artists who face barriers to the art world, and this year’s theme of Shelter feels especially powerful. Shelter can mean many things: a roof over our heads, a place of safety, or the sense of belonging we find in community.
The exhibition brings together the work of 81 artists from across the UK, each exploring the theme in their own way. Through painting, sculpture, textiles, installation and digital media, the artists share personal stories of home, protection, resilience and connection.
From reflections on homelessness and housing insecurity, to celebrations of community spirit and the simple comfort of feeling safe, Shelter is full of moving and imaginative interpretations.
We’re so proud to see Chelsea, Darren, Leslie and Dominic’s work alongside such a rich and diverse range of voices. Their creativity highlights the importance of art as a place of refuge – where expression, belonging and bold ideas can thrive.
The exhibition runs at The New Art Gallery Walsall until 11 January 2026, before touring to Christie’s, London in January 2026.
