Paperback Art Book; Once Upon a Time in an Oxford Road Station; by Armaghan Butt

This art book contains a collection of Armaghan's detailed fineline illustrations of Manchester's modernist architecture and everyday life.

This 15cm square, black and white art book was produced in collaboration with The Modernist, following Armaghan's 6-month residency which concludes with an exhibition in August 2026. The exhibition showcases work inspired by Armaghan’s journeys across Manchester using The Modernist’s Architectural City Guide. Through these explorations, he created detailed line drawings of the buildings that caught his eye.

Armaghan works across written word, printmaking, digital illustration and animation. He explores stream of consciousness, typing processes and modernist architecture in his work.

In 2024, Armaghan was commissioned by interior design agency Sheila Bird Studios to create a mural for their building, featuring a collection of portraits of Manchester residents. He also exhibited work at The Manchester Contemporary Art Fair in 2025.

In 2026, Manchester-based technology company Escode commissioned Armaghan to create bespoke artworks for its Spinningfields headquarters. Selected through a staff vote, Armaghan’s work is now displayed in Escode’s main office entrance, celebrating Manchester’s architectural identity and the creativity of learning disabled and neurodivergent artists.
