Artists
Elliott Flanagan
Elliott Flanagan collaborated with Venture Arts artist Barry Finan on a performance of Barry's text based work at our VA Collective, 'The Hand that Makes the Sound'.
Elliott Flanagan is an artist, poet and writer exploring contemporary masculinity via psychogeographic dreams and disorienting post-industrial backdrops of exotica and lovesickness. Local landmarks transfigure into divine monuments, fast paced reality blends with fragments of memory and a personal high pop culture. His book Recreation, a poem and short story influenced by his background growing up in Burnley, was commissioned by Burnley Words Festival 2023 and published by Pendle Press. He was commissioned by Venture Arts during the same year to collaborate with artist Barry Finan on a performance of text based work at The Hand that Makes the Sound.
In 2022 he exhibited Something exotic and euro, an installation of new work at The Whitaker that incorporated poetry, spoken word, field recordings, photography, film stills and a curated tracklist. His poetic work Blancmange, a book and accompanying video piece, was commissioned for A Modest Show, part of British Art Show 2022. In 2024, two of Flanagan’s poems are to be published in Masculinity: an anthology of modern voices by Broken Sleep Books. He is a resident DJ at Slack’s Radio and has exhibited widely including HOME (2021), g39 Cardiff, Venice Biennale and Begehungen, Chemnitz (2019).
