Michael Beard
Michael Beard works across painting, illustration and ceramic sculpture. His bold, energetic artwork reflects his passion for travel, with names of cities, famous landmarks, signage and symbols featuring throughout. His distinctive, overlapping handwriting and fluid lines bring a wonderful sense of movement to his work.
In 2023, Michael presented a solo exhibition at Manchester Craft and Design Centre, featuring paintings and ceramics inspired by Manchester’s architecture, including a collaboration with ceramicist Sue Cragg.
In 2025, Michael was a headline artist at Manchester International Festival (MIF25), presenting a solo exhibition at Aviva Studios. Throughout the festival, he created large-scale artwork and collaborated live with dancers from Company Chameleon and musicians from Manchester Camerata.
Michael has since been nominated for Independent Creative of the Year at the Manchester Culture Awards 2026, recognising his distinctive artistic practice and contribution to Manchester’s creative scene.
