Our CoLab Series welcomes new partnerships with artists and arts organisations based locally, nationally and internationally. CoLab is a flexible, agile and outward-facing approach to commissioning, producing contemporary visual art residencies, collaborations and exchanges.
CoLab Series
Over the past year, our new CoLab Series has generated ambitious and exciting contemporary visual art residencies and collaborations, locally and internationally.
Experimentation and exploration is at the heart of CoLab and an agile and flexible way of working has meant that 28 contemporary visual artists have been free to research, test and play. Artistic relationships have blossomed and great art has been made.
This year’s projects have explored poetry happenings, Polish contemporary dance, football trophies, massive light projections in German nightclubs, reggae playlists and sculptural painting. Next up: natural inks, a trip to Morecambe and voguing.
Co Lab work has been shown at, created at or worked with: Proforma, Pas-e Venice for Venice Biennale, Grizedale Arts, Tate Liverpool, Longsight Art Space, Quays Lightwaves festival, Manchester Contemporary Art Fair, RHS Bridgewater, Begehungen Festival Chemnitz, A Mal Projects, Bonington Gallery, The Old Abbey Tap House & The Baltic.
This year’s artist alumni: Malik Jama, Barry Finan, Catherine McEvoy, Joe Mills, James Desser, Horace Lindezey, Leslie Thompson, Jackie Haynes, Elliott Flanagan, Anthony Shapland, Shazia Sufyan, Jeffrey Knopf, Arvinda Gray, Adam Rawlinson, Andrew Hylton, Linda Hemmersbach, Liam Ashworth, Emelia Hewitt, Luca Agathogli, Terry Williams, Claire Dorsett, Amy Ellison, Danielle Jenkins, John Powell Jones, Shea Sandbach, Sally Hirst, Ben Goring, contemporary dancer Rafal Dziemidok, and poets SAF-S2E, Reece Shearsmith and Eve Piper
