Colours
At almost 80 years old, Violet Emsley is the oldest artist working in the Venture Arts studio and creates immersive abstract artworks in print, textiles and paint. She has historically worked in textiles, with a piece being exhibited at The Whitworth in 2022, as part of A Modest Show (the collateral programme to British Art Show 9).
As her eyesight has worsened, Violet prefers to work more intuitively with paint and colour. The development of her work has resulted in these freely expressive prints and paintings that use layering of colour and texture to great effect.
Two of Violet’s paintings featured in the YESS LAD exhibition, which ran at TJ Boulting during Frieze London in 2022, and as part of the National Festival of Making in 2023.
